The R4 3DS team has once again released an update to their newest R4i cards for the Nintendo 3DS. The new update now has full support for the latest Nintendo 3DS system update, which was release just a few weeks ago. When the v3.0.0-6 update was applied to the Nintendo 3DS, the R4 3DS was no longer recognized when inserted in to the game system. As a result, if 3DS owners updated their Nintendo console, they were unable to use their cards.
The R4 team had warned against updating and had urged all Nintendo 3DS owners not to update their systems until they had a compatible kernel update that would support v2.1.3.
Over the last few days it seems that they have been hard at work and have now released the latest kernel update for the R4 3DS, adding full support for the v2.1.3. With this update they were also able to add compatibility for the latest DSI XL update as well, which now runs on v1.4.3, so this update has a two fold effect and will enable your R4 to work regardless of which hand held game system you have.
To update to this latest kernel, simply visit the official homepage at http://www.r4usa.com and download the latest version of the R4 3DS firmware in order to update your card. All of these kernel releases come in .zip format, and must first be unzipped to your computer. Once you have downloaded and unzipped the archive, you will need to then copy the firmware files over to the micro SD card you are using with your R4 3DS.
It is recommended that you back up the entire contents of the card prior to any update, and in some cases, formatting your card may be the simplest way of updating to the newest version. Once the new firmware is on your card, you can then copy over all of the files you were using on your R4 3DS and your card will once again be recognized by both the Nintendo 3DS as well as all Nintendo DSi and Nintendo DSi XL systems, regardless of what version they are running.
